Lady Jasmine Cakes on Food Network

Being invited to compete on Food Network’s Summer Baking Championship was one of those opportunities that felt surreal at first. When the invitation came through, I almost didn’t know what to think — but once it became real, I knew it was a chance to bring my point of view as a baker, artist, and queer-owned small business to a much bigger stage.

The experience was especially meaningful because it connected my local Sonoma County work with a national platform. I was representing Santa Rosa, California, and Lady Jasmine Cakes, a micro-bakery rooted in plant-based cake artistry, dessert catering, and expressive, elevated design. Food Network described me as a pastry chef who had recently started my own business specializing in cake artistry and dessert catering, bringing together my background in fine dining, cake decorating, and baking and pastry arts.

What made the moment even more special was seeing it recognized by the local community. The Press Democrat documented the experience in June 2024, sharing the story of a Santa Rosa baker stepping onto a national Food Network competition. That local coverage helped make the opportunity feel bigger than just me — it became a moment for the people, bakers, clients, and community who had supported Lady Jasmine Cakes from the beginning.

On the show, I had the chance to create under pressure, trust my instincts, and share the kind of desserts I care about most: thoughtful, seasonal, beautiful, and full of personality. Competing on national television challenged me creatively and technically, but it also affirmed the voice I had been building through Lady Jasmine Cakes — one that celebrates flavor, artistry, sustainability, and joy.

This project was not just about being on TV. It was about stepping into a larger conversation as a baker and creative business owner. It gave me the opportunity to show what plant-based cake artistry can look like at a high level, to represent Sonoma County, and to bring Lady Jasmine Cakes into a new chapter of visibility.

Looking back, the experience reminded me why I started this work in the first place: to create cakes that feel personal, expressive, and memorable — and to build a business where artistry, care, and celebration can all live in the same slice.
